Where to Mountain bike in Leinster.
There are plenty of places to mountain bike in Ireland with all ranges of difficulties.
Dublin:
In Dublin there are loads of different places to ride. Ticknock is the only official place where you can ride under the bye-laws set by coillte but the are also other places like Leadmines and the HellFire Club. The trails in Ticknock are graded as a Red trail, which is a difficult trail. It was opened 2 years ago. It is 8km long. There is plenty of man-made singletrack with plenty of drops and jumps as well as a long fireroad climb to the top of the mountain.There is also many trails made by my club MAD MTB that are not official but are very challenging and fun to ride. This is my Local Mountain bike trail as its only five minutes away from my house. It is one of my favourite places to ride as you can go and do a quick night spin around the official trail which will take about an hour and on the weekend you can go for a few hours around the club built trails as well as the official trails.
Wicklow:
There is 2 places to ride in Wicklow but they are probably 2 of the best places to ride in Ireland.
Ballinastoe is the only official place to ride in Wiklow. It consists of 17km of man-mad trails. There is a mix of singletrack climbing and some fast flowy downhill trails as well as rock gardens, some small jumps and some long fireroad climbs.
Djouce is the other place to ride in Wicklow. It has no official trails but still has some great trails. There is about 30km of trail altogether. Most have been built by clubs but there is also some natural trails as well There is some of the longest climbs to get to the trails but that means you have some of the longest, steepest trails in the country, some as long as 6-7 minutes long.
